The Coastline is set to be celebrated as 2018 is hailed as The Year of the Sea.
The Year of the sea sets an outstanding opportunity to let the world know about Wales as an outstanding tourism destination worldwide for it’s long, sweeping beaches, rocky cliffs and everything in between.
Following 2015’s Year of Adventure and 2016’s Year of Legends, 2018’s The Year of the Sea will follow its predecessors as a big boost to tourism to the region.
The time leading up to the year of the sea has been spent establishing new partnerships, sustainability and marine environment have been given special consideration as central focus points for tourism in the following year.
This comes as Rough Guides named Wales as one of the top 5 places in the world to visit.
Wales is in a fantastic position for this, as there is the chance to celebrate the unique 870 miles of Wales Coastal Path, which along the way has 230 beaches and 50 unique islands to see and explore. Sailor Hannah Mills from Welsh capital Cardiff has been named as ambassador for the year of tourism.
The year comes as the 3.9m Colwyn Bay waterfront project comes to its grand unveiling, as well as the beginnings of Caernarfon’s’ waterfront regeneration.
Many establishments and tourism-related businesses are being proactive in offering opportunities for kids to learn water sports.
Why year of the sea?
Wales is surrounded by 3 borders of 4 by encircling ocean, it’s a dominating feature of this fair nation, which has shaped and distinguished us from the rest of the United Kingdom.
Caernarfon is set to play a great role in this, as it’s one of Wales’ most loved coastal towns, set on the corner of the Menai straits and the Irish Sea it is well famed for the breath-taking views from the seafront and fresh ocean air which comes in from the open seas.
Tourism experts have stated that The Year of the Sea will be fantastic for seafront venues, and Snowdonia hotels alike, as inland shores are also on the agenda to be supported in this time.
